Biography

Trinidad Bascuñán Oviedo (1979) holds a degree in literature from the Catholic University of Chile. She has completed postgraduate studies in textile art, tapestry, and textile design in England and Chile.

Her work combines sculptural and tapestry work, transforming the thickness of the object and its preservation into a matter of painting and its material. Although the thread she uses is not painted, she combines the colors of factory dyes as if they were collected scraps, and then laboriously arranges or ties them in the warp of the loom/frame/frame to create something that appears to be nothing more than a textile.

Her work explores textile art, distancing itself from the utilitarian and traditional, and approaches it as a contemporary and personal artistic language. Her recent tapestry works focus on investigating the tension between color and texture to generate abstract images of map fragments and landscapes.
